Verification Code - How It Works
After a giveaway ends, scammers sometimes pose as organizers - asking to "pay for delivery" or trying to extract personal data. The verification code lets a winner confirm they're really talking to the organizer, not an impostor.
The code only matters for conversations that happen outside the platform - in ordinary private messages in a messenger. If the organizer messages you right inside the app - through messaging the organizer - the other party is already verified by the platform, and the code isn't asked for or needed there.
For participants
Along with your win notification, you get a short code like A7K2-9QMX.
- The organizer says the code first. When the real organizer contacts you about the prize, they will state this code themselves - you don't need to bring it up.
- You only check it matches. If the code they say matches the one from your notification, the conversation is genuine and you can proceed.
- Never say the code yourself - not in chat, and not if someone asks you to "confirm" it. The real organizer already knows the code; they have no reason to ask you for it.
- Code doesn't match, or nobody mentions it at all? That's a scammer. Stop the conversation and contact Re:Activity support.
The code stays valid for as long as the activity exists - there's no separate expiry. If the organizer suspects the code may have leaked, they can reissue it: you'll get a separate notification with the new code, and the old one stops working.
For organizers
The code is generated automatically the moment winners are selected - there's nothing to configure in advance.
Where to find the code:
- Open "My Activities" -> the completed activity -> "Results"
- Next to each winner in the list you'll see their verification code
- The same code is in the CSV export of the winner list (the "Verification code" column)
How to use it: when you reach out to a winner, say the code first - before they say anything to you. This confirms to the winner that they're really talking to you, not to someone impersonating the organizer.
If the code leaked or you're unsure it's still safe - the winner's row has a reissue button. After reissuing:
- the old code stops working;
- the winner receives a notification with the new code;
- only the new code is valid for verification.
Reissue the code if you suspect a conversation containing it may have been seen by someone else, or if a participant tells you someone asked for the code in advance.
